The Full Story

Indy Juneteenth Inc. is a community-driven nonprofit committed to honoring Juneteenth that was started in 2016 in the backyard of James and Twjonia Webb. What started as just a small celebration has grown into strengthening the narrative and quality of life for communities across Indiana. Through large-scale celebrations, leadership development, scholarship opportunities, athletics, and educational programming, we create spaces where families can gather, learn, build, and thrive.

OUR MISSION

Indy Juneteenth Inc. exists to celebrate freedom and elevate excellence across Indiana through cultural events, education, youth empowerment, and year-round community initiatives.

What We Do

Produce Indiana’s oldest, largest, and only nationally recognized Juneteenth Celebration and related events. This includes Indiana's Juneteenth Festival, Parade, Fireworks Show, and Youth Mentorship Program. Our annual attendance at our festivals once in a backyard has grown to over 10,000 people together celebrating everyone's God given right to freedom. We've given away annually over $5000 in scholarships and have provided laptops to over 100 students to have access to resources to help with not only their education but potential youth entrepreneurship opportunities.
Provide education through Juneteenth 101 training touchpoints
Elevate youth leadership through the Miss Indy Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant (CROWN H.E.R.)
Indy Juneteenth is also home to Indy Juneteenth Sports, the first Juneteenth Boxing tournament in the country that has reached youth boxers from Indiana to New York City. Now we are partnering with former Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster to improve our outreach and impact in the sports world.
Build partnerships that support economic opportunity, culture, and community pride
Travel the nation to historic sites and events to expose youth from low income communities to the amazing things our nation has to offer.
